Depth of Light

Cloud installation by Mason Studio, Toronto
This installation is an interactive installation created by the Mason Studio in Toronto. The website is http://retaildesignblog.net/2013/03/04/cloud-installation-by-mason-studio-toronto/
I think this installation is beneficial to us (even though it is not a colour installation), it is an interactive one. Some students used interaction of students and the audience in the last project and proved it was very effective e.g. Rinni and the shadow his head projected.
This installation works by as you walk past lights in side the forms turn on and off. The shadows create depth and movement in a static object

Dan Flavin, 1976, Varese Corridor in the Panza Collection, Italy.

Flavin's work is generally formal... ie light as form... rather than spatial. Typically he does not use projected light, and neither does he in corridor project, but here the lit rooms spill their light into adjacent spaces, and in this way he 'composes', with light, dramatic spatial effects.

RGB Fabulous Landscapes

The difference is interesting in this series of images, where it becomes clearer when more colour sources are used, as opposed to the above images, where it is more obscure.

James Turrell

Much of Turrell's work appears so simple but similarly to Eliasson he uses colour's emmersive qualities to create  surreal spaces which play with depth/ flatness and three dimensionality of light. These images can only convey a mere sense of what it is like to experience his work 1:1 in the flesh.

Olafur Eliasson

Naomi has already posted an example of Eliasson's work but I thought I would add a few more to get the inspiration flowing. Eliasson's work bridges art installation and architecture to create immersive atmospheres, often utilising colour to aide this.

Bridget Riley - Op Art

Karn and I were talking to Oscar today about the work of British Op Artist Bridget Riley. Below are some examples of her work. The organisation of colours appears to play tricks on the eye - with lines shifting around and parts appear darker or lighter due to the colour contrast and proximity.
