Bernini's 'Ecstasy of Saint Teresa'

The Ecstasy of Saint Teresa by Gian Lorenzo Bernini (created 1647-52 ) situated in Rome's Santa Maria della Vittoria is considered by many to be one of the finest marble sculptures, not only from the Baroque period, but throughout the history of art. What is particularly impressive is the fluidity the Bernini achieves in the depiction of material and movement out of marble. The light and shadow interplay are untilised to emphasise this, along with enhancing the drama of Saint Teresa's expression.
